Your station runs on an audio streaming engine (Shoutcast or Icecast) that receives audio from a broadcast source and delivers it to your listeners. On top of that sits AutoDJ — the part that keeps your station broadcasting 24/7 without anyone needing to be connected live.
What AutoDJ does for you
- Gapless, round-the-clock broadcasting with no manual intervention
- Delivers your stream in multiple formats simultaneously
- Gives individual DJs or presenters their own login to connect and go live over the top of AutoDJ
- Automatically inserts jingles and adverts on the schedule you set
Before you start AutoDJ: you'll need at least one track uploaded and added to a General Rotation playlist. AutoDJ has nothing to play otherwise.
How track transitions work
AutoDJ blends between tracks using one of these modes:
- Smart Crossfade — automatically analyses the volume of both tracks to avoid an awkward double fade-out
- Standard — fades the outgoing track out, then fades the next one in, one after the other
- Minimum Threshold — only crossfades if the next track is shorter than a duration you specify
The three playlist types
General Rotation — your default, always-on content. You can weight tracks to play more or less often, and restrict a playlist to certain hours.
Scheduled — plays only during specific calendar time blocks, and overrides general rotation while it's active.
Jingles — station idents, promos, or ads, set to play after a number of songs, every X minutes, or at fixed times each hour.
A setting worth knowing about: Repeat Protection
This stops the same track, artist, or album playing too close together — 10 minutes apart by default. It's a good thing, but if it's set too aggressively it can end up blocking scheduled content from playing at all. Worth double-checking if a scheduled playlist doesn't seem to fire.
